Canadian Broadcasting Corporation host, Jian Ghomeshi has been charged so far with 9 counts of violent acts against women. Investigations continue and further charges are expected to be laid in the future. This melee of a situation has exploded from the studios of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation aka CBC, where Ghomeshi was employed as the quintessential genial host of “Q” a radio show and quickly became a ”Canadian Celebrity”. He was considered warm and beguilingly intimate and captivated his audience, especially women with his charismatic allure.
A celebrity, which by his own now infamous admissions, harbored a dark and dangerous side. He gloried in his single status as a “Bad Boy’ Hollywood style. A man now publicly known for his many romantic trysts, which involved severe sexual assault, battery and choking. A Bad boy indeed, now feeling the pressure of Canadian courts as he was finally outed by numerous women who over time had endured, his version of romance now being expressed as Rape culture.
Jian Ghomeshi has recently become Canada’s Poster boy Elect to represent an insidious issue that apparently 65% of North American women have experienced. Sexual assault is the politically accepted term now used to whiten the word Rape. And Rape or sexual assault has been a questionable crime based on the relationship between the victim and assailant as they usually know each other either as colleagues or through dating, coining another euphemistic word – DATE RAPE. This long-term victimization is at the crux of all the allegations of sexual assault.
Recent North American news has contained several stories of a phenomenon that has loosely been termed as “Rape Culture” and it is a hotly debated topic in Canada and the United States of America. Several stories that evoke the cult of celebrity, as per Jian Ghomeshi and his antics are the fodder for the grist of North American news and talk shows. Many women that are victims of these crimes from the past are coming forward to bring international testimony to the savage reality of sexual assault for more than one publicly acclaimed celebrity. Ghomeshi is it seems not alone in this sexual assault scandal.
Comedian Bill Cosby is facing a similar public trial in Canada with his own allegations that completely mirror the style of Jian Ghomeshi. Popular Television Actor Stephen Collins, who played a non-denominational Christian pastor who supported family virtues also publicly confessed to predatory sexual offences with minors all female, including his juvenile sister-in-law. All men so far involved with this criminal activity are in the glare of the media spotlight with fame and all its privileges accredited to them. All simultaneously are being exposed publicly for violent sexual assaults to women.
That Dating, familiarity has become a contentious issue in Rape culture and it took a bevy of distressed victims to seal Ghomeshi’s fate. A fate that he publicly stimulated, by continual and still ongoing posting to his social media page on FACEBOOK . His confession of sorts on October 26th, prior to his arrest sparked media frenzy. He had shown a video of his sexual partner’s injuries to CBC and insisted that the bruising took place through his version of consensual sex. He then wrote about it on social media. He has often publicly revealed his inner most self, first on his show , “Q” a hip cool radio that fed his cult followers, his brand of cool and allowed him instant access to his prey, women and lots of them.
In his memoirs he explains his sexual explorations at an early age. Prior to his recent arrest and pending trial on 9 counts of sexually orientated assaults and the violence associated with what was termed Rape, he alerted the public that sexually explicit material was being leaked to the Media about his personal life. He stated that it was rough consensual sex. Ghomeshi was fired and is suing the CBC for wrongful dismissal to the sum of fifty-five million dollars. He then dropped the suit. Ghomeshi has a penchant for publicly airing his grievous sins, displaying a narcissistic personality with his look at me attitude. He does address this issue in his book.
His arrests did not come from any of his victims but were the action of the Toronto Police service that decided he was a person of risk to the community and viewed the public media reports as a foundational accusation and invited the victims to come forward and four charges were formally laid as the victims filed their complaints with the police. On November 26th, the 47-year-old Ghomeshi was charged with four counts of sexual assault and one count of overcome resistance – choking. That has since been amended and added to. Marie Henein, Ghomeshi’s high profile defence lawyer responded with, “We will defend and respond to these allegations fully and directly in a court of law.”
This Friday January 9th, 2015 nine women have accused the former CBC radio host Jian Ghomeshi of violent acts, ranging from choking to “closed fist” punching. 2002 marked the first time allegations were made against Ghomeshi. Canadian actress Lucy DeCoutere and author and lawyer Reva Seth came forth today with further allegations. Ghomeshi still communicates via Facebook to his legions of fans who have become part of his public tale. Ghomeshi still insists he is innocent. DeCoutere, released this statement.” The past month has seen a major shift in the conversation about violence against women. It has been an overwhelming and painful time for many people, including myself, but also very inspiring. I hope that victim’s voices continue to be heard and that this is the start of a change that is so desperately needed.”
Ghomeshi is currently under house arrest, and is forced to stay at his mother’s Toronto home. His passport was seized as he was deemed a flight risk by the Canadian courts. He was released on bail several times, the first bail on November 26th. was $100,000.00 and then as of January 8th , a further $10,000.00 bond had to be posted. The courts are responding to the egregious charges that are accumulating as more women come forward, resulting in further financial penalties.
There is a natural confluence taking place as due to the ongoing reports of sexual assaults to women being reported so frequently in the media in Canada, the citizenry and the lawmakers have been forced to get ahead of this media exposure and to begin the containment process. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced the creation of an all-party committee on sexual violence and harassment in the workplace and beyond.
Attorney General Madeleine Meilleur deferred her comments till the trials ruling. But the Minister Responsible for Women’s Issues Tracy MacCharles said the “silver lining” to the episode is that it may help other people who feel victimized to come forward.“Our government is very committed to this issue ,around sexual violence and assaults and harassment against women,” MacCharles told reporters. She encouraged anyone who’s experienced sexual harassment to go to the police or use other community supports.
The Canadian institution’s that were the breeding ground for sexual assault have attempted to distance themselves from what was termed misogynistic behavior. Ghomesh’s Alma mater York University has a rape rating of 27% deeming it a Rape factory. Ghomeshi, in his memoirs credits York University for his future now past success.
From Canada’s east coast Dalhousie University where male dental students on Facebook, publicly stated their desire to perform hate-sex (rape) with certain female students and chloroform them is a nod to comedian’s Bill Cosby allegations of drugging his victims to perform date-rape. Cosby is performing in three cities in the Toronto area and all his shows are being picked with protesters calling him a rapist, allegedly.
At this point all these reports of sexual assault are being treated as allegations with Ghomeshi’s case seen as a landmark for Canadian legal affairs. Ghomeshi is being considered for a lengthy incarceration and severe fines if found guilty. Recent Updates say that a or some charges are being dropped. Yeah we can all bet that he wants ALL the charges dropped. This guy takes the cake for all the DOUCHE-BAGS out there. RAPE IS A CRIME -ALL THE TIME !
